Dear visitor, Welcome to my homepage! My name is Arja Kotiranta, a felt artist among many other things, from Lahti, Finland. My homepage is mostly in Finnish so far, but a complete English translation is under work. In the meantime, here is a briefing of my page in a nutshell: In the section "Huovutus" (felting) you find pictures of my feltwork by pressing the link "Huovutusgalleria". "Esimerkkejä huovutustöistäni" are examples of my previous work and "Myytävät työt" are work currently for sale. The wool I use in my felting is Finnish lamb's wool. I combine two techniques in my felting - the wet technique and the needle technique. By doing this I have discovered that the result is much more "three dimensional" and "alive". I have also been framing many of my works with both new frames and recycled, old window frames, and also "tailor-made" frames, made from old materials. I like to use natural materials in my work, such as reindeer horn and bones, snag branches, feathers and leather. My feltworks are popular interior and decorative items, which have found their new homes in many different places and countries all over the world. If you come across a work on my page that pleases you, feel free to contact me by e-mail (arja.kotiranta@phnet.fi). I can make you a custom-made work according to your wishes. No two of my works are exactly alike, but I can modify a motive you like. In the section "Valokuvaus&runous" you may have a look at some of my photographs and poems. Many of the pictures are taken in Finnish Lapland, mainly the area of Inari - which has also been an inspiration to many of my poems and feltworks. From the link "Valokuvagalleria" you find my pictures. "Painotuotteet" is where you can find my printed products. I have made many different postcards and bookmarks, packet cards, posters, books and calendars. All the pictures are taken by me and the poems are written by me. Pictures of the different products are found from the link "Painotuotegalleria". The "Lehtijuttuja" section is what different newspapers and magazines have been writing about me over the years. "Vieraskirja" is the guest book, so please leave your regards over there! Thank you for visiting my page! All the best, Arja Kotiranta
